Duties Description

Bronx Psychiatric Center is currently recruiting Social Work Assistant 1 workers for the Safe Options Support Team (SOS).

The SOS Team provides comprehensive care to street homeless or subway dwelling individuals. The worker's role will involve community outreach on the streets and subways, coordinating participants needs before and after their move from street to home, enhancing their daily living skills, accompanying individuals to appointments and advocating on their behalf when faced with healthcare inequities.

The role will require field-based work, periodic on-call coverage and a willingness to work flexible hours.

Minimum Qualifications

Candidates from outside or within State Service can be considered for hire under the Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement – Statewide (NY HELPS) program if they have a bachelor’s degree in a human service field and 1 year of social work experience.

Substitution: Master’s degree in social work can substitute for 1 year of specialized experience.

OR

Candidates from within State Service can be considered transfer to a competitive class position if they have one year of permanent competitive or 55-b/55-c service in a title eligible for transfer under Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law.

You must have a valid drives license and be able to drive a state vehicle.

This position is eligible for the Downstate Adjustment of $4,000.

This position is for the Safe Options Support Team.

If you are appointed and lose the ability to bill through Medicare and Medicaid, you may be terminated from your employment.
