The Genetic Counselor will provide comprehensive genetic counseling services to individuals and families with a focus on pediatric general genetics, but with potential opportunities for specialization in a variety of areas, including metabolic genetics, cardiogenomics, cancer genetics, and prenatal genetics.

Responsibilities include:

  • Obtaining and interpreting detailed family and medical histories.
  • Assessing and communicating risks for genetic conditions.
  • Ordering and interpreting genetic tests.
  • Providing psychosocial support and counseling to patients and families.
  • Educating patients and healthcare providers about genetic conditions, testing options, and management strategies.
  • Participating in multidisciplinary clinics and collaborating with other healthcare professionals.
  • Contributing to the development and implementation of genetic counseling programs and protocols.
  • Staying up-to-date on the latest advancements in genetic testing and research.
  • Acts as preceptor to the graduate students interning in the Medical Genetics Program.

Job Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in Human Genetics or Genetic Counseling required, or equivalent combination of education and related experience.
  • 1-3 years of relevant experience, preferred.
