After-School Support Counselor
Position Type: Part-Time, Non-Exempt
Pay Rate: $18.50/hour
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 2:45–6:00 PM (arrive 30 minutes early)
Reports To: Lead Instructor & Program Manager

Housed in the beautifully restored former St. Mary Magdalene Church, our unique setting features a state-of-the-art ropes course, after-school programs, summer camps, team-building workshops, and enrichment activities built around our five pillars: Physical Health, Nutrition, Academics, STEAM, and Mental Health. Position Summary
After-School Counselors support Lead Instructors by providing hands-on assistance during activities, mentoring students, and ensuring a safe, respectful, and engaging environment. They help students who need extra support, serve snacks and meals, assist partner organizations during programs, and actively participate alongside youth in all activities.
Key Responsibilities
- Support Lead Instructors during daily lessons and activities, offering one-on-one or small group help to students as needed.
- Actively participate in all activities, modeling enthusiasm, teamwork, and positive behavior.
- Serve snacks and meals in accordance with program guidelines.
- Assist partner organizations during on-site programs, ensuring smooth operations and student engagement.
- Act as a mentor, speaking to youth with respect and kindness at all times.
- Follow Dragon’s Den curriculum, behavior management strategies, and de-escalation techniques.
- Maintain a clean and organized program space; assist with setup, transitions, and cleanup.
- Build positive relationships with students, encouraging their personal growth and development.
- Support the mission of Dragon’s Den by promoting an inclusive, empowering, and inspiring environment.
- Perform other duties as assigned by Lead Instructors, the Program Manager, or the Executive Director.
- Qualifications
- Experience working with youth in educational, recreational, or mentoring settings preferred.
- Passion for improving the lives of children and supporting their academic, social, and emotional growth.
- Ability to work collaboratively with a team and follow established curriculum and behavioral strategies.
- Strong interpersonal skills and a commitment to respectful communication.
Clearances Required
PA Criminal History Check, PA Child Abuse History Clearance, FBI Fingerprint Clearance, and Mandated Reporter Training must be completed before starting.
