Job Summary:
Idyllwild Arts Academy, is seeking a dedicated and compassionate School Counselor, School Social Worker, or School Psychologist to join our collaborative multi-disciplinary team and coordinate student support in a boarding school setting. This role works closely with the Care Team, staff, faculty, and parents to support students’ social and emotional well-being while at school. This is a part-time position. Specific hours will be determined based on school needs and candidate availability.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide confidential short-term and drop-in counseling services and care coordination for students struggling with academic, artistic, developmental, emotional, and/or behavioral issues.
- Collaboratively develop intervention plans and recommend strategies to support students together with families, faculty/staff, Care Team, and Student Support Team.
- Assist in referrals to off-campus providers for long-term treatment and to coordinate care.
- Plan and deliver crisis intervention when needed, including student safety assessments.
- Develop and support the implementation of whole school mental health initiatives.
- Respects the culture, diversity and rights of all students, their families and the community.
- Prioritizes duties in a manner consistent with organizational objectives and growth.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Education, Skills and Experience:
- Master's Degree or higher in clinical or counseling psychology, social work, or related field.
- Familiarity with mental health resources and interventions for adolescents.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to engage effectively with students, families, faculty, and administrators.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- A commitment to fostering an inclusive and diverse school environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working with high school-aged students in a school counseling capacity. Experience working in boarding schools, independent schools, and/or residential life
OTHER REQUIREMENTS
Ability and desire to work within the Idyllwild community, Riverside County, or commute a reasonable distance, that does not impede on-time arrival during winter months.
Pass a criminal history background check as required by California Education Code Section 44237, and pass a TB test.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS / WORK ENVIRONMENTS
While performing the duties of this position an incumbent may be required to:
- Regularly remain sedentary for long periods of time in meetings and while processing information and paperwork both manually and on a computer.
- Reach with the hands and arms and use of hands to finger, type, and manipulate a computer keyboard and mouse.
- Additionally, the incumbent must be able to converse in clear English both written and orally, over a telephone and in person, and be able to make public presentations.
- Occasionally, incumbent may be required to lift up to 25 pounds, traverse uneven terrain and climb stairs while moving about campus, bend and stoop, and show visitors campus facilities.
- Provide own transportation for local and remote events.
- Work hours vary and may include days, nights, and weekends.
