Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate School Counselor to join our educational team. The ideal candidate will play a vital role in supporting students' academic, social, and emotional development. This position involves working closely with students, parents, and faculty to create a positive and nurturing environment that fosters student success. The School Counselor will provide individual and group counseling, facilitate conflict resolution, and offer academic advising while promoting mental health awareness and behavioral health strategies.
Responsibilities
- Provide individual and group counseling sessions to address students’ personal, social, and academic concerns.
- Assist in the development of individualized education plans (IEPs) for students with special needs.
- Implement conflict management strategies to resolve disputes among students effectively.
- Conduct academic advising to help students set goals and develop plans for their educational journey.
- Collaborate with teachers to support classroom management and behavioral interventions.
- Administer standardized testing and interpret results to guide student development.
- Work closely with child protective services when necessary to ensure student welfare.
- Promote cultural diversity counseling practices to support all students in a multicultural environment.
- Engage in community outreach initiatives that promote mental health awareness among students and families.
- Maintain accurate records of counseling sessions and student progress while adhering to confidentiality standards.
Requirements
- Master’s degree in School Counseling, Social Work, or a related field is preferred.
- Experience working with children or adolescents in an educational setting is essential.
- Strong communication skills to effectively interact with students, parents, and staff members.
- Knowledge of childhood development principles and behavioral health practices.
- Familiarity with mental health counseling techniques and crisis intervention strategies.
- Experience in teaching or classroom settings is a plus.
- Ability to manage behavior effectively within the school environment.
- Understanding of child welfare policies and procedures related to student safety.
