Child Care Coordinator

First United Methodist Church of Bakersfield is seeking a Childcare Coordinator to provide quality childcare that supports the mission of the church. This is an excellent opportunity for someone passionate about working with preschool-aged children and their families in a faith-based setting.

Position:

• Childcare Coordinator
• Salary: $20 Hourly position
• Minimum 4 hours on Sundays (8am to 12pm) with 2 administrative hours during the week.
• (Potential for additional hours during the week as needed)

Requirements:

• Minimum of 3 years of experience working with preschool-aged children and their families.
• Current CPR / First Aid certification for infants and children.
• Current TB test.
• Completion of a Live Scan background check.

Compensation:

• Hourly pay (based on hours worked).
• Sick leave provided per California Labor Law.
• No additional benefits provided.

Responsibilities:

• Oversee care for infants through 5 years old during Sunday worship services, weeknight programs, and special church events.
• Supervise, schedule, and support childcare staff and volunteers.
• Maintain accurate attendance records, staff task lists, and schedule/timesheet reporting.
• Ensure health, safety, and cleanliness of the childcare area (including laundry, disinfecting, and equipment safety).
• Assist with discipline, emergency preparedness, and safety compliance (including OSHA).
• Act as a welcoming presence for families, supporting church activities and serving as a resource for staff and parents.
• Other duties as assigned with the Senior Pastor’s approval.

Accountability: The Childcare Coordinator reports directly to the Pastor.
