Placement on the Yosemite Community College District salary schedule dependent upon education and experience. 2025-2026 Salary Schedule – $78,152 to $145,887 per year or $91,999 to $149,080 with an earned doctorate. New personnel limited to a maximum tenth step initial placement based on previous experience – maximum equals $121,318 or $124,511 with an earned doctorate.

Master’s degree in rehabilitation counseling
Master’s degree in rehabilitation counseling
OR
Master’s degree in counseling, guidance counseling, student personnel, clinical or counseling psychology, education counseling, social work, career development, marriage and family therapy, marriage, family and child counseling, or a Bachelor’s degree in marriage and family therapy or in marriage, family and child counseling and possession of a license as a Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT); and either 15 or more semester units in upper division or graduate level course work related to people with disabilities, or completion of six semester units, or the equivalent of a graduate-level counseling practicum or counseling field work courses, in a post-secondary Disabled Students Programs and Services program or in a program dealing with people with disabilities, or two years of full time experience, or the equivalent, in one or more of the following:
(A) Counseling for students with disabilities; or
(B) Counseling in industry, government, public agencies, military or private social welfare organizations in which the responsibilities are for persons with disabilities, or the equivalent.

Job Description Summary
GENERAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
All full-time faculty are expected to participate actively in their disciplines, department activities, and the general intellectual life and governance of the college. Under the Direction of the Dean of Student Services, be responsible for supporting and encouraging the enrollment, retention, and academic goal attainment of students impacted by disability, language, social, economic, and educational disadvantages and facilitating the successful completion of their goals and objectives in college through academic and support counseling, financial aid and other support services via in-person and online spaces. This position will serve student needs and program functions. Part of the assignment may be online, in the evening, and/or on Saturdays. Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- DSPS Coordination Duties:
- Provide overall coordination and day-to-day leadership for DSPS.
- Determine eligibility for support services and provide specialized advisement to students with a disability.
- Develop Academic Accommodation Plans (AAP) specifying academic accommodations and recommended support services.
- Evaluate student progress in meeting learning outcomes and goals of their AAP.
- Develop, implement, evaluate and revise specialized instructional curriculum for students with disabilities.
- Provide support and training for college faculty and staff in disability awareness, referral processes and appropriate accommodations.
- Assist faculty in providing appropriate accommodations for DSPS students in the context of the classroom.
- Provide leadership and coordination of the DSPS program for faculty and staff in the development of categorical budgets; analyze and evaluate workload and conflicting demands.
- Assist in the monitoring of MIS reporting of student data to the State Chancellor’s Office (for categorical funding purposes). This may include VAR reporting data collection.
- Participate in college-wide planning meetings and act as a resource and advocate for DSPS students.
- Assignment may include some weekend and evening duties.
- DSPS Counseling Duties:
- Provide academic, career, and personal counseling to DSPS students.
- Conduct individual student counseling appointments, including drop-in meetings and group workshops.
- Lead orientation sessions to new DSPS students to acquaint them with Columbia College programs, services, procedures
- Help students understand the process of applying to the college and registering for classes.
- Assist students with determining career goals, including administering and interpreting assessments, and linking those goals
- Advise students with making course selections and help them to create an Educational Plan.
- Discuss university transfer options and help students to make informed transfer decisions.
- Support students with personal concerns regarding college.
- Refer students to appropriate student support and educational services on campus.
- Serve as liaison with CSU and UC systems, and private and out-of-state institutions, to gather and disseminate information
- May teach a variety of Guidance and/or Skills Development classes.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
PHYSICAL AND MENTAL STANDARDS
- Mobility: ability to sit or stand for long periods, move about an office, and reach above and below desk level.
- Dexterity: fine manipulation sufficient to operate a keyboard, handle individual papers, write and take notes.
- Lifting: occasional lifting of papers, files, equipment and material weighing up to 25 pounds.
- Visual Requirements: close vision sufficient to read files, documents, and computer screens and do close-up work; ability to adjust focus frequently.
- Hearing/Talking: ability to hear normal speech, speak and hear on the telephone, and speak in person.
- Emotional/Psychological Factors: ability to make decisions and concentrate; frequent contact with others including some public contact; frequent deadlines and time-limited assignments.

Preferred Qualifications
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Minimum qualifications for Learning Disabilities Specialist or ability to attain appropriate training.
- Experience in community college-based grant-funded programs and/or categorical programs.
- Competence in current professional principles, practices, and techniques for counseling.
- Experience in counseling students from traditionally disadvantaged backgrounds, including students with disabilities and veterans.
- Ability to conduct and develop appropriate workshops, guidance and skills development courses, and seminars.
- A willingness to use available technologies and assessment instruments with the ability to provide effective interpretation to students.
- Knowledge of counseling concepts, issues, and resources.
- Awareness and commitment to the philosophy and objectives of the California Community College.
- Enthusiasm for the learning process.
- Commitment to supportive relationships with student(s)
- Current understanding of assessment processes for improving student success at the course, program, and degree level.
- Competent in new pedagogies, such as accelerated learning, supplemental instruction, online or hybrid teaching, and other pedagogies to improve student success and equity.
- Willingness to examine and remediate one’s instructional, relational, and counseling practices to more effectively engage and support minoritized students.
- Experience and skill with addressing issues of equity and accessibility in the counseling process.
- Experience and expertise in culturally responsive delivery of service through the counseling process, especially as it relates to student academic retention, persistence, and completion.
- Demonstrated ability to address equity gaps within services, resources, and counseling processes.
