BEHAVIOR INTERVENTIONIST / REGISTERED BEHAVIOR TECHNICIAN SPECIALIST

BASIC FUNCTION:
Support the special education classroom teacher by working directly with the students in providing an education program to a class of special education students including supervision, curriculum, daily schedule to support students in meeting IEP goals and making progress on content standards.
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:
1. Develops and implements strategies for positive student behavior management.
2. Provides specialized instruction and behavior management support to individual students or groups of students based on their IEP goals.
3. Confers with program specialists, school administrators, teachers, school psychologists, and site staff concerning student progress and behavior plan goals.
4. Collects and tracks data about individual student progress toward behavior plan goals.
5. Assists staff in development and implementation of interventions through modeling and/or shadowing techniques.
6. Recognizes and intervenes during behavioral crises involving aggressive and/or dangerous behaviors to maintain safety of school personnel and students by implementing behavior support plans, providing 1:1 assistance as needed, and communicating with school personnel.
7. Serves students with an identified need across a variety of settings (1:1, group, classroom and school grounds).
8. Engages in physical and sometimes strenuous activities with students such as running, lifting, weight shifting, and positioning of students.
9. Communicate effectively, tactfully and persuasively, both orally and in writing.
10. Perform related duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
General knowledge of the practices, methods and techniques used in the teaching of the special education population; ability to implement school wide positive behavior intervention programs and maintain files and ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with teachers, parents, students, and administrators.
REQUIREMENTS:
● High School diploma or equivalent.
● Clear Health Screening & TB test
● Pass Criminal Background Check
ENVIRONMENT:
Diversified special education classroom and other learning environments; constant interruptions. Position involves walking, standing, or sitting for extended periods of time; bending at the waist, kneeling, or crouching to assist students; reaching overhead, above the shoulders, and horizontally; hearing and speaking to exchange information; seeing to read a variety of materials and monitoring student activities and behavior; dexterity of hands and fingers to demonstrate activities, preparing materials, operating specialized equipment or office equipment. Position involves occasional contact with dissatisfied individuals; may experience exposure to anti-social behavior and verbally and physically abusive students; exposure to lice, bodily fluids, and communicable diseases.
