Travel Counselor
Starting Hourly Rate: $15.02/Hour

Position Overview: Join our team at the City Visitor’s Center and provide exceptional customer service and assistance to visitors and tourists. You will operate the point of sale system and manage the opening and closing of the center.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Offer outstanding customer service to travelers, citizens, tourists, and the general public.
  • Greet and welcome visitors; provide information on local attractions, events, historical sites, transportation, shopping, and lodging.
  • Assemble and distribute informational packets for travel agencies, clubs, and tourist groups.
  • Promote local attractions, special events, and places of interest; provide discount tickets.
  • Register customers for special events such as volks marches.
  • Play videos related to city history and attractions.
  • Provide directions within and around the city.
  • Make hotel, motel, and inn reservations.
  • Sell tickets, publications, souvenirs, and other merchandise; operate the point of sale system.
  • Encourage extended stays by selling ticket packages; maintain security and records of sales.
  • Answer telephone inquiries, providing similar services and information to callers.
  • Maintain daily records of visitor numbers, calls, and the nature of inquiries.
  • Open and close the visitor center as assigned.
  • Represent the City and the Visitor Center at external events.
  • Perform other related duties as needed.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • One (1) year of experience in customer service or equivalent education/experience.
Skills and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of the city's geographic layout, history, local attractions, and customer service principles.
  • Ability to maintain effective relationships with internal and external personnel.
  • Competence in compiling, recording, and transcribing information.
  • Ability to assess and apply procedures and standards to specific situations.
  • Proficiency in operating audio-visual and office equipment.
  • Ability to utilize descriptive data, such as travel brochures and maps.
  • Basic math skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division).
  • Ability to follow instructions in written, oral, or diagrammatic form.
  • Capability to exercise judgment, decisiveness, and creativity in dynamic situations.
