The position will be embedded in the 911 Communication Center for Volusia County. The Crisis Care Manager will provide a professional review of mental health calls received by 911. The Crisis Care Manager will be knowledgeable about mental health and substance abuse in order to provide clinical insight during a crisis. Work may include answering assigned 911 calls in order to connect with SMA Healthcare's mobile response team. The focus will be to dispatch mental health crisis calls to the appropriate provider reducing the need for law enforcement to response to primary mental health calls. Calls may require documentation and verbal reporting to determine correct referrals and level of care. The Crisis Care Manager will review records for tracking and auditing as well as other issues of compliance with SMA services standards, CARF requirements, state licensure, Medicaid and other quality improvement standards as assigned by the department supervisor. The Crisis Care Manager will be expected to complete all mandatory trainings related to the Volusia County Sheriff's Office in accordance to maintain employment and good standings within the 911 Communication Center.
Qualifications
At minimum, graduation from an accredited college/university with a Bachelor's degree in Human Services or related field. Two years of experience in behavioral health treatment services is required. Master's Degree graduated from an accredited college/university is preferred. Experience in a setting where it was necessary to communicate orally and in writing to inform and/or give recommendations about client's issues and treatment service delivery is preferred.
- Must be knowledgeable and demonstrate competency in current best practices of behavioral health treatment and related services, especially as it relates to documenting the course of treatment and patient placement criteria in the client record.
- Depending on assignment must have knowledge of typical diagnoses, treatment services, and developmental issues for adolescents in general, delinquent adolescents, adults and pregnant/post-partum women who are admitted to a mental health and/or substance abuse treatment setting.
- Must be knowledgeable and demonstrate competency in using crisis intervention strategies

- Ability to interpret age specific response to treatment.
- Knowledge of the treatment needs of adolescent mental health, substance abuse, co-occurring, ADD, ADHD, conduct, and oppositional defiant disorders.
- Knowledge of the treatment needs of adult mental health, substance abuse, and co-occurring diagnoses of affective disorders, anxiety disorders, PTSD, and antisocial personality disorder.
- Proficiency in working with telephone system and telephone etiquette.
- Proficiency in working with computer hardware and software.
Responsibilities
- Accepting crisis calls within the 911 communication center from those in need of immediate assistance. Provide information regarding available services and community resources as needed and provide linkage to SMA Healthcare services.
- Knowledge of the Baker Act and Marchman Act.
- Participates in required SMA in-service trainings to maintain employment.
- As assigned, assists in the maintenance of SMA's compliance with treatment and documentation requirements of funding sources, performance improvement, and accreditation activities.
