As an IPS Employment Peer Mentor, you’ll use your personal journey with mental health or substance use recovery to inspire and guide others. Your voice and perspective bring a kind of expertise no classroom can teach. In this role, you’ll walk alongside individuals in the community, offering support, encouragement, and advocacy while promoting self-determination, resilience, and shared decision-making.

Full-time Schedule:

  • Monday-Friday; Flexible Scheduling Options

Location:

  • Raleigh, NC and surrounding areas

Essential Job Functions:

  • Provide coaching, mentoring, and consultation to promote recovery, self-advocacy, and self-direction.

  • Deliver wellness management strategies (e.g., WRAP, Illness Management & Recovery) and support employment services.

  • Assist individuals in developing psychiatric advance directives.

  • Model recovery values and resilience through personal example.

  • Consult with team members to foster understanding of recovery and ensure beneficiary perspectives are respected and integrated into treatment.

  • Actively participate as a full member of the employment team, including Person-Centered Planning.

  • Support individuals in exercising their legal rights within the community.

  • Provide employment interventions and case coordination as needed.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A minimum of a High School diploma or equivalent accredited by the appropriate state department of education is required.
  • Must be a NC Certified Peer Support Specialist.
  • Must be or have been a recipient of mental health services.
  • Must have current, unrestricted, state-appropriate driver’s license.
  • Must have current, unrestricted vehicle insurance.
  • Must have reliable transportation that will allow movement throughout the program delivery area.

Environment:

  • Employment Peer Mentor works as part of a team and while there is daily office based work the bulk of the work is in the community including the street, homes, shelters, jails and hospitals and services are delivered when and where individuals need them.
