Requirements

Education/Certification: Master’s degree in guidance/counseling Valid Texas counseling certificate Special Knowledge/Skills: Knowledge of counseling procedures, intervention skills, student appraisals and career development. Knowledge of academic programs, policies and procedures, and acceptable CTE practices and principles. Strong organizational, communication, public relations and interpersonal skills, and ability to instruct and guide students Three years teaching experience (CTE preferred)

Job Description

Work with faculty, staff, students, parents, and community to develop, implement, and sustain a comprehensive College, Career, and Military Readiness program for the District. Assist in the guidance of students to fully develop each student’s career path, providing information regarding CTE program offerings. Coordinate data-gathering activities required by Federal and State regulations. Provide linkages with campuses and district administration. Develop and implement measurable systems to ensure all students and parents receive educational and career guidance. Work to promote and improve College, Career, and Military Readiness at all grade levels. 1. Train district counselors and administrators, in partnership with the CTE Director, regarding CTE Programs of Study, CTE Career Clusters and the CTE Coherent Sequence of Courses. 2. Assist with the district’s industry-based certificate (IBC) program, and assist and support the CTE Director with collecting & importing student IBC information into the district’s student data management system. 3. Maintain Dual Credit agreements and provide Dual Credit information to students, parents, staff, etc. 4. Assist students with preparing for all College, Career and Military Readiness assessments. 5. Work in cooperation with COCISD post-secondary partners to ensure students are informed of the application & enrollment process. 6. Serve as an active member of the District CTE department and integral part of COCISD counseling program. 7. Assist in determining staffing needs as provided by data gathered through course requests and forecasting through district’s Student College, Career and Military Readiness assessment program. 8. Coordinate interest assessments as well as learning styles assessments, skills and ability profiler assessments. Utilizing this information, guiding students through the process of creating a four year personal graduation plan that encompasses interests and abilities. Guidance 9. Plan and coordinate high school CTE program registration. 10. Assist the junior high school counselor with junior high CTE program registration. 11. Guide individual and student groups through the development of their College, Career and Military Readiness portfolios and future college/career plans. Counseling 12. Counsel individual students and small groups with presenting needs and concerns. Consultation: 13. Coordinate career counseling activities for grades 6-12. 14. Develop and maintain a communication system to effectively collect and disseminate information to other professionals, as appropriate. 15. Consult with parents, teachers, administrators and community members to enhance involvement with students. Assessments: 16. Evaluate, assist in selection, and promote utilization of the district’s Student College, Career and Military Readiness assessment program and advising students on their assessment results. 17. Develop and implement measurable systems to insure all students and parents receive educational and career guidance. 18. Maintain confidential assessment files on all students tested for vocational aptitude and interest. 19. Conduct local needs assessment to determine employment and program needs. Coordination: 20. Serve as an active member of the District CTE department and integral part of the COCISD counseling program. 21. Coordinate with the District, colleges and universities, and the community to bring together resources for CTE students. 22. Assist with CTE Career Fairs and College Night. 23. Work with student scheduling, as appropriate. Maintain CTE master schedule and coordinate with overall schedules. 24. Assist in coordination of data-gathering activities required by Federal and State regulations. Professionalism: 25. Adhere to ethical and legal standards. Observe the ethical standards of Texas and American school counselor associations and model professional and responsible behavior. 26. Comply with policies established by Federal and State law, SBE rules, and Board policy. 27. Communicate effectively with colleagues, students, parents, and the community. Supervisory Responsibilities: Supervise assigned counseling aide(s) and clerical employee(s). Working Conditions: Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors: Maintain emotional control under stress. Ability to communicate verbally and in writing. Frequent District travel and occasional statewide travel. Occasional prolonged and irregular hours. Extended period of work seated at a desk. Repetitive hand motion, prolonged use of computer.
