Job Summary
This is a full-time (40 hours) Social Work (MSW) position responsible for the Pediatric Home Ventilator Program (outpatient and inpatient) and Neuromuscular Clinic.
The MSW will provide critical psychosocial support for the Pediatric Home Ventilator Program, the Stable Vent Unit (inpatient), and the Pediatric Neuromuscular Clinic. This specialized role addresses the unique needs of children dependent on home ventilators and their families, ensuring continuity of care across inpatient and outpatient settings. As an integral part of a multidisciplinary team, the MSW helps to coordinate care, provide crisis intervention, advocate for families, and connect patients to essential resources, directly improving patient outcomes and overall care quality.

Responsibilities*
You will be responsible for:
- Evaluation of psychosocial needs and provision of billable social work interventions with a high degree of autonomy
- Patient Advocacy related to navigating health care systems
- Counseling to patients and families to address issues of coping and management of children with chronic health issues
- Work closely with inter-disciplinary teams to collaborate on plan of care for patient
- Collaboration with medical teams and Child Protection team to assess issues of neglect or abuse
- Working closely with community agencies including with school systems to advocate for the special needs of chronically ill children.
- Participation in inter-disciplinary team meetings, Social Work meetings and committee work that support the patient care mission.
Required Qualifications*
- A Master's degree in Social Work from a school accredited by the Council of Social Work Education.
- A current license to practice social work in the State of Michigan.
Desired Qualifications*
- Two or more years of experience in a pediatric inpatient care setting, including discharge planning and coordination
- Two or more years of experience supporting children and families with issues related to chronic illness, adjustment to illness and disability, crisis intervention, and assessing barriers to medical care
- Experience in care coordination with community resources such as CPS (Child Protective Services), CMH (Community Mental Health), schools, and CSHCS (Children?s Special Health Care Services)
- Proficiency in addressing adjustment, loss, and bereavement issues, given the broad range of complex medical diagnoses in this population
- Prior experience in medical and mental health social work
- Strong ability to develop rapport and communicate effectively with diverse patients and families
- Skilled in efficient, accurate patient assessment and developing effective care plans
- Excellent organizational skills, flexibility, self-motivation, and ability to prioritize multiple tasks in a dynamic medical clinic environment
- Ability to make independent, sound decisions
- Effective collaborator as part of a large multidisciplinary team
- Proficiency in maintaining accurate and timely electronic clinical records
Work Schedule
This is full time, 40 hour/week position. The typical schedule is Monday-Friday with start and end times 8:00-4:30 or 8:30-5:00.
Work Locations
This position will work out of C.S. Mott Hospital, Ann Arbor, MI 48109 and is an onsite position.

Underfill Statement
This position may be underfilled at a lower classification depending on the qualifications of the selected candidate. Advancement through the career ladder at the Expert or Clinical Scholar Level is required for placement in the MSW Senior Classification
Union Affiliation
This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the United Michigan Medicine Allied Professionals (UMMAP), which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours, and other terms and conditions of employment.
