What you bring to SBHG (qualifications):
- High School diploma or equivalent (e.g. GED, HiSET, etc.) required
- Personal experience as a consumer, foster parent, or parent of a child in the child welfare, probation, or mental health systems
- One (1) year of full-time experience performing non-professional, consumer directed services in a mental health, health care, or other social services agency / organization serving people with disabilities preferred.
- Peer Support Specialist Certification: successful completion of the certification process within one year of employment (required).
- Valid California Driver's License.
- First Aid certification from persons qualified by agencies including but not limited to the American Red Cross.
NOTE: Must possess a valid California Driver's License and maintain a driving record that meets the company driver's eligibility policy.
How you will make a difference (job overview):
This position is responsible for working with families, which includes caregivers, parents, and natural support, to help represent their best interests. The Peer Partner Counselor participates in various treatment team meetings and actively participates in the development of care plans. The Peer Partner Counselor demonstrates the ability to conduct a strengths interview with family members; tell own story to engage families; build on family strengths; communicate clearly; complete documentation and assist other team members in coordinating services.
Division/Program Overview:
- Program is designed to have a peer staff stationed at one of the county locations and supporting (either) children, adolescents, adults/older adults and families.
- This support is through assisting them in navigating the county system – through the knowledge of their own personal lived experience and connecting/linking to resources, opportunities and other communities of support.
- The unique lived experience of the staff provides support focused on advocacy, education, mentoring and support and motivation.
- Staff may also be required to support clients in the community
