School Adjustment Counselor: K-8

Brennan Middle School/Peter Thacher Elementary School

Start Date: ASAP


Purpose:

To develop and deliver social, emotional, and behavioral supports and strategies in order to help students institute positive changes and help them to achieve their fullest potential.


Reports to: Principal and/or Director of Special Education and Student Support Servicesor designee


PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Build and support rapport among staff, families and students
2. Effectively apply clinical skills within an educational setting including small group within MTSS
3. Provide school-based individual and small group counseling support to students with social, emotional and behavioral needs per their IEP/504; facilitate social skills groups within programming
4. Provide conflict resolution support to staff, families and students
5. Serve as a member of the school based Critical Incident Team and facilitate the 504 team
6. Serve as a member of the Student Support and Special Education Team.
7. Collaborate with staff to develop IEPs, Functional Behavior Assessments, Behavioral Intervention Plans, and Building/Safety Plans
8. Provide consultation services to staff, families and students regarding social, emotional and behavioral concerns
9. Provide consultation support regarding the accessibility of community-based medical and mental health services
10. Maintain communication with community-based medical and mental health service providers
11. Assist with the facilitation of student safety assessments
12. Support student transition from mental health facilities/hospitals to school
13. Support student transition across grade and academic levels
14. Support school-wide initiatives.
15. Perform other responsibilities as deemed appropriate and assigned by a supervisor and/or designee


Skills:

1. Safety Care trained preferred
2. Experience with students with global developmental disabilities
3. Licensed as a Social Worker in MA preferred.
4. Spanish speaker preferred.
