About Job

Overview

We are looking for a Bilingual Bicultural Victim Advocate to join our team. Our Advocates provide vital support to victims and their families in Chester County. This position will have a special emphasis on outreach and services to Chester County’s Latino/Hispanic population. They provide supportive counseling, assist clients through our 24/7 hotline, accompany clients to court, medical appointments, police interviews and any other proceedings needed during the criminal justice system. They work closely with many other agencies in the County including the District Attorney’s Office, law enforcement and other local non-profits.

A minimum of an Associate’s Degree although Bachelor’s Degree Preferred in Social Work, Psychology, Counseling, Criminal Justice or a related field and one year of experience, or the equivalent of same. The Advocate must complete the SAC training program within six months of starting, possess a current valid driver’s license, have the use of an automobile and must be able to respond in person within 45 minutes to locations all over Chester County.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Provide direct services to all victims and their families, including things like: crisis response, crisis counseling, needs assessment, individual goal setting, advocacy and accompaniment throughout medical, police and court procedures.

2. Provides hotline coverage on CVC’s 24/7 hotline including evening and weekend shifts.

3. Provides supportive counseling for victims of sexual assault and other crimes and/or their significant others individually or in groups, as needed.

4. Provide referrals to community resources as needed.

5. Provides training and education to staff and volunteers on available Latino resources.

6. Provide court accompaniment at Magisterial District Courts in areas with large Latino populations as well at any other court where a Latino victim needs support.

7 Assists victims with victim impact statements, victim compensation forms and other written materials. Special emphasis placed on Latino victims of violence, especially women, who might otherwise have only limited access to the state assistance for restitution and empowerment.

8. Provide outreach to the underserved, Latino population in Chester County.

9. Input all client data into CVC’s database accurately and in a timely manner

10. Serve, when required, as a speaker in education/outreach programs.

11. Provide crime prevention/education programs to Latino groups throughout Chester County, in cooperation with the agency CEO, and our PE Department

12. Dedicates time and effort to seek out and take advantage of obtaining new skills and knowledge in line with CVC’s Learning Culture.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

1. A minimum of an Associate’s Degree, Bachelor’s Degree preferred, in Social Work, Psychology, Counseling, Criminal Justice or a related field and one year of experience, or the equivalent of same.

2. Knowledge of and sensitivity to the concerns of the Latino community in Chester County.

7. Ability to express ideas orally and in writing in both English and Spanish.

REQUIRED TRAINING/ OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

  • Within six months of appointment to the position, must provide evidence of successful completion of the current SAC Training Program provided by CVC
  • Must possess a current valid driver’s license, have the use of an automobile during working hours and proper automobile coverage.
  • Must be able to respond in person within 45 minutes to locations all over Chester County when on call.
  • Must obtain a Pennsylvania Child Abuse Clearance, PA Criminal History and FBI Clearance immediately upon employment.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $45,000.00 per year
