Overview
The Peer Support Specialist (PSS) is a certified professional with lived experience in mental health and/or substance use recovery. This role provides mentorship, advocacy, and support to individuals navigating similar challenges. As an integral member of the care team, the PSS promotes recovery-oriented practices, client empowerment, and self-determination.
Responsibilities
- Provide crisis intervention and management to clients in need of immediate support.
- Conduct assessments to determine client needs and develop appropriate action plans.
- Offer behavioral health support through mentoring and motivational interviewing techniques.
- Facilitate addiction counseling sessions, helping clients understand their challenges and develop coping strategies.
- Maintain accurate records of client interactions using EHR systems, ensuring confidentiality and compliance with regulations.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to coordinate care and resources for clients.
- Provide ongoing support and follow-up with clients to monitor progress and adjust treatment plans as necessary.
- Educate clients about available resources and services within the community.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
- CIPSS or NCPS certification preferred
- Minimum one year of experience in a peer support role
- Personal experience with mental health, substance use, or trauma recovery
- Strong communication skills and attention to detail
- Familiarity with recovery resources (e.g., 12-step programs, support groups)
- Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $15.00 - $25.00 per hour
