Job Summary
The Certified Peer Specialist plays a vital role in supporting individuals with mental health and substance use challenges. This position involves leveraging personal experience to foster hope, resilience, and recovery among clients. The Certified Peer Specialist will work collaboratively with healthcare teams to provide guidance, mentorship, and advocacy, helping clients navigate their recovery journey effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Provide one-on-one support and mentoring to individuals seeking recovery from mental health and substance use disorders.
  • Facilitate group sessions that promote peer support and shared experiences.
  • Assist clients in developing coping strategies and life skills necessary for their recovery.
  • Engage in crisis management and intervention as needed, ensuring the safety and well-being of clients.
  • Collaborate with healthcare providers to create individualized recovery plans tailored to each client's needs.
  • Educate clients about available resources, services, and support systems within the community.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of client interactions and progress in accordance with organizational policies.

Skills

  • Strong background in addiction counseling or mental health counseling.
  • Experience in social work or behavioral health settings is highly desirable.
  • Proficient in crisis management and crisis intervention techniques.
  • Familiarity with motivational interviewing strategies to encourage client engagement.
  • Ability to mentor individuals through their recovery process effectively.
  • Knowledge of community resources and support systems relevant to mental health and addiction recovery.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with a compassionate approach to client interactions.
