Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Chemical Dependency Counselor to join our team. This role is essential in providing support and guidance to individuals struggling with addiction and related mental health issues. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in counseling, with a focus on therapeutic techniques that promote recovery and personal growth. You will work collaboratively with clients, their families, referral sources, and other healthcare professionals to develop effective treatment plans tailored to individual needs.
Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive assessments and intake evaluations for clients seeking treatment for substance use disorders.
- Develop and implement personalized treatment plans utilizing evidence-based practices such as cognitive behavioral therapy, motivational interviewing, and group therapy.
- Provide individual and group counseling sessions focused on addiction recovery, grief counseling, crisis intervention, and behavioral management.
- Facilitate family counseling sessions to engage support systems in the recovery process.
- Maintain accurate documentation in compliance with HIPAA regulations, including ICD-9 and ICD-10 coding.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure holistic patient care, including case management and crisis management.
- Offer telehealth services as needed to accommodate client accessibility.
- Engage in clinical research activities to enhance treatment methodologies and contribute to the field of addiction counseling.
- Provide direct support to clients with developmental disabilities or mental health challenges, including PTSD care and chronic pain counseling.
- Participate in ongoing professional development opportunities to stay current with best practices in chemical dependency treatment.
Experience
The ideal candidate will have:
- A background in psychotherapy, clinical counseling, or social work with specific experience in addiction counseling.
- Familiarity with various therapeutic modalities including psychodynamic therapy, art therapy, dance therapy, and applied behavior analysis.
- Experience working with diverse populations including pediatrics, geriatrics, individuals with autism, and those requiring special education support.
- Knowledge of medical terminology, patient assessment techniques, and behavioral health principles.
- Previous experience is highly desirable.
