Overview:
Under the general supervision of the Director of Pupil Services, the School Psychologist will assist students, teachers, and parents in enabling students to achieve their fullest potential educational experience. This role promotes positive self-esteem, resilience, and provides methods and plans for overcoming psychological or mental health challenges.
Essential Performance Responsibilities:
- Conduct psychological assessments, testing, and diagnostic examinations of students to recommend corrective actions that maximize learning and address psychological issues.
- Provide individual, group, or facilitative therapy for students in need of behavior modification or differentiated instruction.
- Assist in the identification and placement of exceptional students, collaborating with administrators and staff to assess individual student abilities and needs.
- Attend PPT (Planning and Placement Team) meetings as needed for students with special needs.
- Serve as a resource and consultant on mental health and child psychology, including conducting in-service programs as requested.
- Contribute to the district’s dropout prevention efforts.
- Provide counseling services to students to foster personal growth, self-understanding, and maturity.
- Continue to acquire professional knowledge and stay current with developments in the field by attending seminars, workshops, and professional meetings, or by conducting research.
- Maintain accurate and complete records, ensuring compliance with district procedures and applicable laws for providing student information to colleges and employers.
- Encourage parental involvement in students' education and ensure effective communication with students and parents.
- Select and requisition appropriate materials, aids, and equipment, and maintain inventory records.
Additional Duties:
- Perform other related tasks as assigned by the Principal or other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Strong knowledge of child psychology principles, assessments, methods, and behavior modification techniques.
- Knowledge of differentiated instruction and student learning styles.
- Ability to use data analysis and information systems to create action plans.
- Familiarity with applicable federal and state education laws.
- Proficiency in computer network systems and software applications.
- Strong organizational and coordination skills.
- Effective communication skills with students, parents, and staff.
- Ability to engage in self-evaluation for professional growth.
- Ability to maintain cooperative working relationships with others.
Physical and Mental Demands, Work Hazards:
- Works in standard office and school building environments.
Qualifications:
- Certification/License: State Certification as a School Psychologist
- Education:
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in a related field.
- Master's degree in Psychology required.
- Ph.D. in Psychology preferred.
- Experience:
- Successful prior experience in a similar role preferred.
- Other Requirements:
- Motor Vehicle Operator's License or ability to provide own transportation.
