General Definition of Work
This position is responsible for providing prevention and education services to families involved with Child Protective Services (CPS), either through a court mandate or on a voluntary basis. Services are delivered primarily through parenting education classes, individualized case planning, and case management. The position also coordinates services and resources for families in collaboration with community agencies and professionals. The role includes providing back-up coverage for CPS intake calls and assisting with support services and activities as needed within the unit. The position independently conducts assessments to identify client needs, establishes appropriate service plan goals, and may provide supportive and directive counseling to clients and their families. In addition, this position serves in a case-management capacity, ensuring clients are effectively connected to both agency and community-based services. All client interactions, service developments, and referrals must be documented in accordance with agency policies and applicable court requirements. The role also involves occasional court testimony and performing other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Considerable knowledge of social work principles, techniques, and practices and their application to individual casework group work and community problems. Knowledge of the psychosocial, socioeconomic and behavioral problems and their treatment. Knowledge of governmental and private organizations and community resources. Knowledge of laws, regulations and policies which govern the program. Skill in establishing rapport with a client and applying techniques of assessing psychosocial, behavioral, and psychological aspects of client's problem. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with administrative members of case load and their families, and with civics medical, social and religious organizations. Ability to express ideas clearly and concisely and to plan and execute work.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in social work from an appropriately accredited institution; bachelor's degree in the field of human services from an appropriately accredited institution and one year of directly related experience; bachelor's degree from an appropriately accredited institution and two years directly related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Employees may be called upon in case of disaster, either natural or man-made, to serve the citizens of Lee County. This service, if required, will take precedence over duties described in this position vacancy announcement.
