About Job

Since 2004, SF Puppy Prep has been San Francisco's premier puppy school. This is not a doggy daycare. We offer Bay Area dog owners the opportunity to enroll their dogs in our revolutionary puppy day school, which offers a positive reinforcement-based curriculum. Dogs can also join insightful classes and participate in fun social events. We help dogs be their best with training that will last them a lifetime.

The Position:

Counselor Assistant - This is the precursor to the puppy counselor position, and will work with adolescent and adult dogs under 20 lbs while assisting the puppy counselors as needed. This role can eventually grow into a puppy counselor role.

  • We are located at 251 6th St, San Francisco, CA 94103
  • This role will be scheduled from 7 am to 5 pm, Monday through Thursday.
  • This role will be 36 to 38 hours a week

Compensation:
$19.18 - $21 / hour (depending on experience)
$2900 - $3200 / monthly (depending on experience and business needs)

  • Paid Training
  • Professional Development

The responsibilities:

  • Create a safe and positive learning environment for the puppies, enabling them to have critical early enrichment
  • Assist puppy counselors as needed
  • Cleaning (wiping up dog urine and feces, sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, organizing, etc.)
  • Preparing food (light kitchen duties, cutting of bait, kong stuffing, etc.)
  • Communicate with clients (written/verbal), giving them insight regarding their puppy
  • Provide support for Puppy Socials, Class Orientations, Special Projects, and Marketing Events
  • The team collectively works on keeping the school organized, safe and productive.

The ideal candidate:

  • An honest, patient, and enthusiastic candidate, who can provide the puppies with an ideal learning environment.
  • The candidate should have a strong understanding of safety and its importance in the workplace. If the candidate has limited knowledge of positive reinforcement methods, they are excited to learn. If the candidate has significant dog training experience, they are ready to embrace our teaching methods.
  • The candidate should enjoy working in an active environment with dogs and can handle loud noises, physical interactions with groups of puppies, and work without the need for constant supervision.
  • This is an excellent opportunity for people looking to start a career or grow their professional experience with dogs.
  • Many staff members were previously dog walkers, doggy daycare staff, dog groomers, or volunteers at a local shelter. The candidate should have an innate desire to learn and help dogs reach their fullest potential.
  • We want to see staff engaged with the puppies. This is not a role where we sit at a desk. This is a high-energy position.
  • We work with puppies and our team. Candidates should be comfortable working with puppies or people.
