Job Summary:

A Peer Support Specialist, also known as a Peer Specialist or a Peer Recovery Specialist, draws on their own experiences and other resources to assist people with a history of substance use and mental health conditions. Conducts one-on-one coaching sessions, meets with mental health professionals to establish treatment plans, provides coaching and emotional support for clients individually and durring support group sessions, connects clients with resources related to housing, employment and additional treatment, helps clients manage appointments with mental health professionals. Also reports concerns about health and safety to other memebrs of the care team, keeps accurate records of client encounters, and writes recovery reviews to update client files.

Job Requirements:

Education and Work Experience:

  • High School Education/GED or equivalent: Required
  • Associate’s/Technical Degree or equivalent combination of education/related experience: Preferred

Licenses/Certifications:

  • Must be willing to complete CalMHSA Peer Support Specialist certification (80-hour training and exam): Preferred

Essential Functions:

  • Conducting one-on-one coaching sessions
  • Providing coaching and emotional support for clients, individually and during support group sessions
  • Connecting clients with resources related to housing, employment and additional treatment
  • Helping clients manage appointments with mental health professionals and community supports
  • Keeping accurate records of client encounters and writing recovery reviews to update client files
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
