Overview
The Certified Peer Specialist plays a vital role in supporting individuals facing mental health and substance use challenges. This position is designed for individuals who have lived experience with mental health or addiction issues and can provide guidance, support, and encouragement to others on their recovery journey. The Certified Peer Specialist will work collaboratively with clients to foster hope, resilience, and empowerment through shared experiences and effective coping strategies.
Duties
- Provide one-on-one support to clients in various settings, including community centers, clinics, or residential facilities.
- Facilitate group sessions that promote recovery-oriented practices and peer support.
- Assist clients in developing personalized recovery plans and setting achievable goals.
- Utilize crisis intervention techniques to help clients navigate difficult situations effectively.
- Engage in crisis management to ensure client safety and well-being during emergencies.
- Offer mentorship to clients by sharing personal recovery experiences and strategies.
- Collaborate with behavioral health professionals to coordinate care and services for clients.
- Maintain accurate documentation of client interactions using EHR systems.
- Conduct motivational interviewing to encourage positive behavioral changes in clients.
- Provide resources and referrals for additional support services, including addiction counseling and social work.
Skills
- Strong understanding of crisis intervention and management techniques.
- Knowledge of behavioral health principles and practices.
- Experience in mental health counseling or peer support roles.
- Proficient in mentoring individuals through their recovery process.
- Familiarity with addiction counseling methods and resources.
- Background in social work or related fields is advantageous.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Ability to engage clients effectively using motivational interviewing techniques.
