We’re hiring a Recreation Therapist to work in a correctional healthcare environment, providing therapeutic recreation services to incarcerated individuals. This role is essential in helping reduce anxiety, promote well-being, improve coping strategies, and support rehabilitation and reintegration goals.

Compensation & Details: $2,376 - $2,618/Week Gross

Shift: Days - 4x10 hr or 5x8 hr available.

Key Responsibilities

• Plan, implement, and evaluate therapeutic recreation programs to promote physical, emotional, and social health
• Facilitate group and individual sessions using recreational activities tailored to inmate needs and security guidelines
• Use evidence-based practices to address issues such as anger management, social isolation, depression, PTSD, and substance use
• Collaborate with mental health and medical staff to align recreation goals with individualized treatment plans
• Promote prosocial behavior and help improve communication, stress management, and self-esteem

Special Considerations in Corrections

• Must be comfortable working in a secured, structured, and at times unpredictable environment
• Ability to engage with a diverse population with complex behavioral, mental health, and medical needs
• Must follow facility protocols, adhere to security measures, and remain calm under pressure
• Familiarity with trauma-informed care and behavior modification models is a plus

Ideal Candidate

• Degree in Recreation Therapy or Therapeutic Recreation (CTRS certification a plus)
• 1–2 years of relevant experience preferred (open to newer therapists with strong clinical skills)
• Effective communicator, culturally sensitive, and collaborative
• Physically capable of conducting activities and maintaining group control
