Facility: Various Locations on Rikers Island

Duties & Responsibilities


Under direction, with broad latitude for independent judgment and decision making, performs difficult and responsible professional and/or supervisory work in the mental health discipline. In addition to performing the duties of Assignment Level I at a higher level, also performs the following:


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provides counseling and consultation services for individual cases that require more in-depth knowledge of mental health counseling principles and techniques.
  • Provides counseling and support services on behavioral health issues to clients within medical services.
  • May provide direct supervision for mental health counselors assigned at Level I.
  • May represent the department at conferences, workshops, hospital or community functions; reports actions and findings to department.
  • May develop and conduct departmental training programs to introduce new developments and techniques within the mental health counseling discipline.

Minimum Qualifications


Assignment Level II
1. Valid license and current registration to practice as a Mental Health Counselor issued by the NYSED and two (2) years of full-time, paid, professional experience providing direct client care in a behavioral health setting.
