Substance Abuse Counselor
Bachelor's required, Master's degree preferred
Rate of pay based on experience, degree level, and relevant certifications
The Substance Abuse Counselor will be responsible for education and counseling alcohol, drug and co-occurring clients. The Substance Abuse Counselor will ensure client’s education, counseling, participation, progress or lack there of, will be documented in accordance with licensure and other required standards. . Duties include:
- Assessment to determine eligibility of referrals.
- Provide counseling and education groups with adolescent and/or adult including court referrals meeting alcohol, drug and co-occurring high-risk criteria.
- Provide counseling for family members, significant others and/or guardians of the clients in treatment, per request or requirements.
- Document and/or update current client files, progress notes, and state reporting forms in accordance with licensure, state grant funding, other requirements and CCS policy and procedures.
- Have appropriate decision-making skills to actively participate and determine appropriateness of behavioral interventions, education and discharge criteria for individuals in treatment.
- Develop and update the individual program plan based on needs and participation of the client.
Requirements; Physical/Environmental Conditions:
- Able to stand and provide group therapy for ninety (90) minutes at a time without a break.
- Able to provide behavioral techniques as needed.
- Able to maintain professional demeanor during emergency situations or elevated client hostility.
- Must be able to perform lifting, bending and other physical tasks needed to perform CPR, First Aid, abdominal thrust technique, standard precautions or other safety needs.
- Must be able to lift and move 25 pounds to help load and unload supplies
- Experience working with adults and adolescents in mental health or substance abuse program is desired.
- Must meet federal, state, and local Criminal Clearance and Child Abuse Indexing requirements
- Not currently on probation
- No child or adult abuse convictions
- No history of felony
