Job Summary:

Excel Peer Support Services LLC is seeking a compassionate and highly motivated Certified Peer Support Specialist to join our team. This vital role involves utilizing your personal lived experience with mental health challenges and/or substance use recovery to inspire, guide, and support others on their own recovery paths. You will work directly with individuals, offering hope, practical strategies, and a unique perspective that complements clinical care.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide Peer Support: Offer one-on-one and/or group peer support to individuals facing mental health and/or substance use challenges, sharing your own recovery story appropriately and effectively to foster hope and build rapport.
  • Advocacy & Empowerment: Advocate for clients' needs and preferences within the healthcare system and community, empowering them to make informed decisions about their own recovery journey.
  • Goal Setting & Skill Building: Assist clients in identifying their personal recovery goals and developing skills for self-advocacy, problem-solving, and relapse prevention.
  • Resource Navigation: Help clients identify and access community resources, including housing, employment, education, healthcare, and support groups.
  • Crisis Prevention & Support: Provide support during challenging times, helping clients develop crisis plans and coping strategies, while knowing when to seek professional intervention.
  • Collaboration: Work collaboratively with clinical staff, case managers, and other service providers to ensure integrated and comprehensive care for clients.
  • Documentation: Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential records of all client interactions and progress, adhering to all privacy regulations and agency standards.
  • Role Modeling: Serve as a positive role model for recovery and self-care, demonstrating hope, personal responsibility, and healthy living.
  • Engagement: Engage clients who may be resistant to traditional services, building trust and encouraging participation in recovery-oriented activities.

Qualifications:

  • Certification: Must possess a valid and current NC Certified Peer Support Specialist (CPSS) certification.
  • Education: Must possess a highschool diploma or equivalent.
  • Lived Experience: Must have personal lived experience with mental health recovery and/or substance use recovery, and be willing to share this experience to benefit others.
  • Empathy & Compassion: Demonstrated ability to show empathy, compassion, and non-judgmental support to individuals from diverse backgrounds.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to build rapport and communicate effectively with clients, families, and professionals.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Reliability: Highly reliable, punctual, and capable of managing a caseload effectively.
  • Technology Proficiency: Basic computer skills, including the ability to use email and electronic documentation systems.
  • Professionalism: Demonstrated ability to maintain professional boundaries and adhere to ethical guidelines.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation is required to meet clients in the community.

Pay: $18.42 - $20.00 per hour
