PSYCHIATRIST - BEHAVIORAL HEALTH URGENT CARE CENTER

Job Summary

Provides short-term, immediate evaluation and treatment for patient experiencing acute psychiatric symptoms and substance use crises. As part of the multidisciplinary care team, the Physician will provide patient-centered care that emphasizes crisis stabilization, integrated treatment, and rapid access to behavioral health services in a community-based setting.

Essential Job Duties & Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive psychiatric evaluations and medical assessments for patient in crisis, including diagnosis and risk stratification.
  • Provide direct clinical care for urgent behavioral health conditions, including co-occurring medical or substance use issues.
  • Initiate and manage psychotropic and other necessary medications in accordance with clinical guidelines and state regulations.
  • Deliver trauma-informed, culturally responsive care tailored to the needs of underserved and diverse populations.
  • Collaborate with psychiatric nurse practitioners, licensed mental health providers, case managers, peer support specialists, and primary care staff in a team-based model.
  • Make appropriate referrals to inpatient psychiatric care, detox, or outpatient behavioral health services, ensuring warm hand-offs and safety planning.
  • Monitor the physical health of patients and address any acute medical concerns that may contribute to or complicate behavioral health conditions.
  • Participate in care coordination, quality improvement initiatives, clinical case reviews, and organizational meetings.
  • Document patient encounters and treatment plans accurately and timely in EPIC electronic health record system (EHR).
  • Educate patients and families on behavioral health conditions, medications, and community resources.
  • Maintain compliance with Federally Quality Health Center (FQHC) regulations, Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), and other state and federal requirements.
  • Render care to patients in accordance with quality and standards, the standards of care prevailing in the community, applicable law, and according to state and federal grant requirements for non-discrimination regardless of status, race, sex, religion, national origin, handicap, age, or ability to pay.

Job Qualifications

  • Graduate for an accredited medical school with a degree of Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathy. Must be Board Certified-Eligible in Psychiatry
  • Must possess current, valid, unrestricted license to practice medicine in the state of Ohio
  • Must be able to participate in and maintain eligibility to receive reimbursement for services form both public and private health care insurers as directed by the organization.
  • Eligible for academic appointment at local medical school preferred
  • Unrestricted DEA registration
  • CPR and First Aid certification
  • Five or more years clinical practice experience preferred with demonstrated supervisory and leadership experience

Physical Demands/Work Environment

This job operates in a professional clinical environment. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to speak and hear. The employee is frequently required to sit for extended periods of time, stand, walk, use hands and fingers, and reach with hands and arms. It requires the occasional lifting of medical files, mobile equipment, or small supplies (usually under 15-20 pounds).
