About Job

The LMSW therapist establishes a therapeutic relationship with assigned clients in the Article 31 clinic for children and adolescents. The LMSW, in coordination with the multi-disciplinary treatment team, ensures compliance with the clinics policies and procedures, conducts assessments; participates in treatment planning, provides individual and group therapy, as well as collateral and family sessions to promote optimum mental health.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain confidentiality of records relating to client’s treatment
  • Provide evidenced based interventions to children, adolescents, and families
  • Provide therapeutic services to assigned clients during evening and weekend hours
  • Assess each client for risk level and complete safety planning/monitoring as needed
  • Encourage clients to express their feelings and discuss what is happening in their lives and help them to develop insight into themselves and their relationships.
  • Engage in collateral and/or family sessions to enhance communication
  • Guide clients in the development of skills and strategies for dealing with their problems.
  • Prepare and maintain all required treatment records and reports.
  • Counsel clients, individually and in group sessions, to assist in overcoming dependencies, adjusting to life and making changes.
  • Collect information about clients through interviews, observation, and collaterals.
  • Complete comprehensive assessments with DSM 5 diagnosis; including meeting with clients and/or family member(s)/significant other(s)/guardian(s)
  • Act as client advocates to coordinate required services or to resolve emergency problems in crisis situations.
  • Develop and implement treatment plans based on clinical experience and knowledge
  • Complete progress notes for each session within 24-48 hours and complete billing for the session
  • Engage in outreach to clients/collaterals who do not attend scheduled appointments and document appropriately
  • Collaborate with other staff members to perform clinical assessments and develop treatment plans.
  • Evaluate client’s physical or mental condition based on review of client information
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of therapy programs and client’s progress in resolving identified problems and moving towards defined objectives
  • Modify treatment activities and approaches as needed to comply with changes in client’s status
  • Monitor client’s use of medications
  • Learn about new developments in the field by reading professional literature, attending courses and seminars, and establishing and maintaining contact with other social service agencies.
  • Gather information about community mental health needs and resources that could be used in conjunction with therapy.

Minimum Requirements

  • Master’s degree in social work from an accredited institution of higher learning LMSW
  • Current NYS licensure or possesses a permit from the New York State Education Department.
  • Minimum 1 years’ experience in providing mental health counseling/therapy to children, adolescents, and families within a clinical setting.
  • Evening and weekend hours required
  • Well versed in diagnosis, therapy, educational programs and development of treatment plans
  • Able to deal effectively with variety of client mental health diagnoses; provide crisis intervention and treatment for clients which may require special observation.
  • Customer service abilities including effective listening skills.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $65,000.00 - $70,000.00 per year
