Summary of Position
The Mental Health Counselor (MHC) will provide individual and group counseling sessions to all employees and clients of Goodwill Central Texas. The MHC will conduct outreach to the various programs to obtain referrals. The MHC will provide crisis intervention and assist participants in finding appropriate outside resources. In addition, the MHC will act as a liaison between the participant and their case manager to offer intervention techniques to resolve job related issues. The goal of the MHC is to reduce maladaptive behaviors and improve daily functioning and emotional well- being.
Role and Responsibilities
- Provide appropriate, person-centered, evidence based, best practice therapeutic interventions to participants.
- Perform interviews and utilize various assessments to identify presenting problems and gather relevant psychosocial history and facts that will assist in determining the most appropriate intervention.
- Collaborate with client to identify therapy goals and develop treatment plan.
- Provide individual and group therapy in accordance with evidence-based practices with a focus on issue related to employment such as stress management, positive interpersonal skills and communication skills, conflict resolution, and increased coping skills.
- Work collaboratively with client’s case manager to ensure appropriate services and provide the necessary skills training to facilitate the participant’s success in achieving and maintaining the maximum possible level of independent functioning.
- Appropriately refer clients to community counseling resources for identified mental health issues that require long term treatment.
- Possess an in-depth knowledge of community crisis intervention services and be available to provide crisis interventions as needed with all Workforce Advancement clients as necessary.
- Develops and presents training seminars that are tailored to clients and employees of Goodwill Central Texas.
- Maintain participant confidentiality and prepare reports as requested.
- Maintain licensure as required by licensing board
- Attend professional development trainings as required by licensing board
- Ability to evaluate options and provide information for participant to choose appropriate action.
- Be knowledgeable and able to provide information and referrals for community based services.
- Read and understand complicated and detailed correspondence and reports, regulations, and policy directives.
- Other duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibility
This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- LMSW LMFT-a, LPC-I needing supervision or LCSW, LMFT, LPC.
- 2 years of experience working in social services and/or providing employment counseling.
- Must have good analytical, thinking, interview, interpretation and communication skills.
- Must be able to pass a thorough background check.
- Must be efficient in computer operation, networking, and communication.
- Texas Driver’s License, good driving record, liability insurance, and vehicle in good working condition to travel on work related business.
- Bilingual preferred.
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to lift up to 30 pounds at times.
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to walk; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, and talk or hear.
- The ability to cope with and tolerate moderate levels of stress is also a necessity. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus
- Ability to use hands and fingers to operate a telephone and keyboard.
