Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Chemical Dependency Counselor to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in addiction counseling and mental health, with a focus on providing support and guidance to individuals struggling with substance use disorders. This role requires a deep understanding of various therapeutic techniques and the ability to work effectively with diverse populations, including children, families, and individuals with developmental disabilities.
Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive assessments and intake evaluations for clients seeking treatment for substance use disorders.
- Develop individualized treatment plans based on client needs, utilizing evidence-based practices such as cognitive behavioral therapy, motivational interviewing, and group therapy.
- Provide individual and group counseling sessions to clients, focusing on addiction recovery, crisis intervention, and behavior management.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure holistic patient care, including case management and coordination of services.
- Maintain accurate medical documentation in compliance with HIPAA regulations and ICD coding standards.
- Engage in ongoing research and professional development to stay current with best practices in chemical dependency counseling.
- Offer support for clients dealing with co-occurring mental health issues such as PTSD, grief, or chronic pain.
- Facilitate family counseling sessions to promote healing and understanding within the family unit.
- Implement telehealth services as needed to reach clients who may not be able to attend in-person sessions.
Experience
Candidates should possess the following skills and experience:
- Proven experience in addiction counseling or clinical counseling settings.
- Familiarity with psychotherapeutic techniques including psychodynamic therapy, art therapy, dance therapy, and applied behavior analysis.
- Experience working with children, geriatrics, and individuals with disabilities or developmental disorders is highly desirable.
- Knowledge of medical terminology, patient assessment procedures, and behavioral health practices.
- Background in crisis management and intervention strategies is essential.
- Experience in both inpatient and outpatient settings is preferred.
