Overview
The Durable Medical Equipment Coordinator plays a vital role in ensuring the efficient management and coordination of durable medical equipment (DME) services. This position requires a detail-oriented individual who can navigate various electronic medical record (EMR) systems and maintain compliance with healthcare regulations. The ideal candidate will possess strong organizational skills, excellent communication abilities, and a commitment to providing exceptional patient service.
Duties
- Coordinate the ordering, delivery, and maintenance of durable medical equipment for patients.
- Review and verify documentation related to equipment orders and patient care plans.
- Ensure compliance with HIPAA regulations and maintain patient confidentiality.
- Utilize EMR systems such as Epic, Meditech, Athenahealth, eClinicalWorks, Brightree, and others for accurate data entry and retrieval.
- Conduct insurance verification for DME coverage, including Medicare and private insurance policies.
- Provide clerical support including filing, typing, and managing multi-line phone systems.
- Maintain accurate medical records and documentation for all patient interactions.
- Collaborate with healthcare providers to ensure proper patient care and equipment needs are met.
- Serve as a point of contact for patients regarding equipment inquiries and support.
Qualifications
- Previous experience in a medical office or clinic setting is preferred.
- Familiarity with medical terminology, health information management, and DME processes is essential.
- Proficiency in using Microsoft Office Suite and various EHR systems is required.
- Strong typing skills with attention to detail; experience with 10 key typing is a plus.
- Excellent phone etiquette and customer service skills to effectively communicate with patients and healthcare staff.
