Job Overview
We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Substance Abuse Counselor to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of addiction medicine and be skilled in providing support and guidance to individuals struggling with substance abuse. This role involves conducting assessments, developing treatment plans, and utilizing evidence-based therapeutic techniques to facilitate recovery. The Substance Abuse Counselor will work collaboratively with clients to promote positive behavioral changes and support their journey towards sobriety.
Duties
- Conduct comprehensive patient assessments to evaluate the severity of substance use disorders.
- Develop individualized treatment plans that incorporate cognitive behavioral therapy and behavior management strategies.
- Provide clinical counseling sessions to clients, focusing on coping mechanisms and relapse prevention.
- Maintain accurate medical records and documentation of client progress in accordance with regulatory standards.
- Engage in research to stay current with best practices in addiction treatment and recovery.
- Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team, including social workers and healthcare professionals, to coordinate care for clients.
- Offer home community care services as needed, ensuring clients have access to necessary resources.
- Facilitate group therapy sessions to foster peer support among individuals in recovery.
Qualifications
- A degree in social work, psychology, or a related field is preferred.
- Minimum certification of a CADC I, CATC I, SUCC (equivalent or higher) is required.
- Experience in addiction medicine or substance abuse counseling is highly desirable.
- Proficiency in cognitive behavioral therapy techniques and behavior management practices.
- Strong skills in patient assessment and clinical counseling.
- Familiarity with medical records management and documentation requirements.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to connect empathetically with clients.
- A commitment to ongoing professional development and research within the field of substance abuse treatment.
