About Job

Job Overview
About Us

The Delores Barr Weaver Policy Center leads the Justice for Girls Reform Movement by preventing girls initial or deeper involvement in the justice system. We serve girls who are often failed by the system: girls of color, girls in foster care, survivors of human trafficking, and girls from under-resourced communities. We tackle the root causes of justice system involvement by changing the policies and practices that unfairly trap girls in destructive cycles of justice system involvement, generational trauma, and poverty.

Job Summary

The Mental Health Professional provides therapy and mental health services to girls and young women involved in or at risk of involvement in the juvenile justice system. This role combines clinical work, advocacy, and outreach to help girls heal and thrive.

Responsibilities

  • Provide individual, group, and family counseling using trauma-informed, culturally responsive practices.
  • Conduct assessments and develop treatment plans tailored to each girl’s unique needs.
  • Collaborate with case managers, schools, courts, and families to coordinate care.
  • Support girls in navigating systems like juvenile justice, child welfare, and education.
  • Facilitate therapeutic and psychoeducational groups.
  • Provide crisis intervention and safety planning when needed.
  • Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation.
  • Travel to homes, schools, detention centers, and community settings to provide services.
  • Participate in clinical supervision and ongoing training.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Social Work, Mental Health Counseling, or a related field.
  • Licensed or license-eligible in the state of Florida (LMHC or LCSW).
  • At least 2 years of experience working with girls and/or youth affected by trauma.
  • Experience in child welfare, education, juvenile justice, or related fields preferred.
  • Must be able to travel regularly throughout designated Florida counties.

What We’re Looking For

  • Passion for working with girls impacted by trauma and justice system involvement.
  • Strong clinical skills with a trauma-informed, gender-responsive lens.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • Commitment to social justice, equity, and cultural humility.

Preferred Experience

  • Working with survivors of human trafficking or sexual violence.
  • Knowledge of system-involved youth (foster care, juvenile justice).
  • Bilingual or multilingual candidates are strongly encouraged to apply.

Work Location:

  • In the field and community (home visits, schools, detention centers)
  • Some remote administrative work possible
