Position Title: Certified Recovery Peer Support Specialist
Full-Time Hourly Position
The Peer Specialist’s role is to support others in recovery from substance use disorders. The Peer Specialist will serve as a role model, mentor, advocate and motivator to recovering individuals in order to help prevent relapse and promote long-term recovery. The Peer Specialist must demonstrate an ability to share personal recovery experiences and to develop authentic peer to-peer relationships. This position is diverse and is to include community outreach which is to promote and nurture new relationships within the recovery community while educating the community on the services and benefits provided by The Palm Beach County HUB, a Recovery Community Organization. Adept social media skills and a creative mind are a must!
References Needed: Three references needed - one personal and two professional.
Hours: 40 hours per week, Monday - Friday 9-5. Schedule is subject to change with workshops, seminars and events happing within the HUB. Flexibility is needed.
The Certified Recovery Peer Support Specialist will report to the Site Coordinator of the Palm Beach County HUB.
Job Overview - Main Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide recovery education to service recipients for every phase of the recovery journey from pre-recovery engagement, recovery initiation, recovery stabilization, and sustained recovery maintenance.
- Provide a model for both people in recovery and staff by demonstrating that recovery is possible.
- Assist recovering persons to identify their personal interests, goals, strengths and weaknesses regarding recovery.
- Assist/coach recovering persons develop their own plan for advancing their recovery; for “getting the life they want.”
- Recovery Planning - Facilitate (via personal coaching) the transition from a professionally directed service plan to a self-directed Recovery Plan. The goal should be to transition from professionally assisted recovery initiation to personally directed, community supported recovery maintenance.
- Promote self-advocacy by assisting recovering persons to have their voices fully heard; their needs, goals and objectives established as the focal point of rehabilitation and clinical services.
- Actively identify and support linkages to community resources (communities of recovery, educational, vocational, social, cultural, spiritual resources, mutual self- help groups, professional services, etc.) that support the recovering person’s goals and interests. This will involve a collaborative effort including the recovering person, agency staff and other relevant stakeholders.
- Support connections to community based, mutual self-help groups. Will link individuals to the appropriate professional resources when needed. Provide vision-driven hope and encouragement for opportunities at varying levels of involvement in community-based activities (e.g., work, school, relationships, physical activity, self-directed hobbies, etc.).
- Develop relationships with community groups/agencies in partnership with others in the agency.
- As recovery specialist position evolves and knowledge increases, visit community resources with recovering persons to assist them in becoming familiar with potential opportunities.
- Identify barriers (internal and external) to full participation in community resources and developing strategies to overcome those barriers.
- Maintain contact by phone and/or e-mail with recovering person with RCI in mind to ensure their ongoing success and to provide re-engagement support in partnership with others in the agency if needed. Long-term engagement, support, and encouragement.
- Maintain project logs, reports and records in appropriate files and database(s).
- Develop, implement, and promote ongoing community training opportunities at The HUB.
- Perform other duties, as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:
- Peer Support Certification from Florida Certification Board is required.
- Knowledge and understanding of substance use disorders and recovery.
- Must be detail oriented, a self-motivator, and problem-solver.
Education/Experience Qualifications:
- Associate degree from an accredited college or university, with a concentration in healthcare field of study preferred.
- Minimum of 2 years of prior work within the Recovery Community.
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to work extended hours, as needed.
- Must be able to lift 25 pounds, as needed.
