As the Absentee Services Coordinator, you will be responsible for overseeing the absentee-by-mail voting process, ensuring that voters throughout Wake County request, receive, complete, and return their absentee ballots accurately and on time. This role is well-suited for someone skilled at managing complex workflows, supporting team members and maintaining the precision of election operations. As the county with the largest registered voter population in North Carolina, Wake County depends on your dedication to providing outstanding service to the community.

What You Will be Doing as a Board of Elections Absentee Service Coordinator:

Oversee the daily operations of staff on the Absentee Team to ensure timely processing of absentee requests, returned absentee ballot packages and related tasks
Monitor absentee workflows and implement process improvements to maximize team efficiency and prevent backlogs
Serve as the primary point of contact for the Absentee Team - providing guidance, answering questions and resolving routine issues prior to escalation
Collaborate closely with the Voter Registration Services Coordinator to assess workload demands and determine when to reallocate staff between absentee and voter registration tasks, enhancing overall efficiency and coordinated support
Partner with the Voter Services Manager to strategically assign staff, coordinate priorities and evaluate operational needs
Ensure all absentee ballot processing complies with federal and state election laws and directives
Prepare and maintain accurate reports and spreadsheets to track absentee ballot requests, processing and team productivity
Develop and update procedures and resources to support absentee staff in their daily functions
Deliver exceptional customer service to voters via telephone, email and in person by providing absentee ballot forms, guidance on the process and resolving inquiries professionally and accurately
Prepare and present staff recommendations regarding civilian, military and overseas absentee ballot approvals, non-approvals or matters requiring Board review to our 5-member bipartisan board of elections
Assist with various election and post-election tasks, including ballot reconciliation and provisional ballot processing
About Our Team

The Wake County Board of Elections is responsible for conducting all elections held in Wake County. The Board locally administers state and federal election laws. Principal functions include establishing election precincts and voting sites; appointing and training Precinct Officials; preparing and distributing ballots and voting equipment; canvassing and certifying the ballots cast in elections and investigating any voting irregularities. It maintains voter registration and participation records and provides public information on voters and elections. This position is in-person and will work at the Board of Elections Operations Center. We support a million Wake County residents and ensure elections are accessible, transparent and fair.

The Basics (Required Education and Experience)
Associate's degree
Two years of experience in business environment
Notary Public
Valid Driver's License and "safe" driving record
Equivalent education and experience are accepted

Experience in public administration or elections
Experience leading a team
Experience working in local or state government

Work Schedule: Mon - Fri 8:30am - 5:15pm

Hiring Range: 26.16 - 31.99
