Summary

The Perinatal Social Worker is responsible for providing direct services to infants/toddlers, perinatal women and families using a variety of therapeutic modalities in order to help the clients maximize their level of functioning. He/she will collaborate with the clinical team and will perform as well as participate in other functions associated with this primary responsibility, such as administrative tasks, levels of production, program compliance, consultation, staff training, and supervision of student interns and volunteers, as assigned by program administrators.

Essential Functions:

  • Demonstrate an understanding and application of normal or typical developmental tasks of pregnancy
  • Provide assessment of clients demonstrating knowledge of psychopathology/differential diagnosis with regards to risk factors in maternal mental health and parent-child attachment
  • Able to communicate information, diagnostic thinking and treatment planning effectively
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of the needs of the population.
  • Provide therapeutic and psychoeducational group therapy.
  • Provides supervision to social work interns, identifying learning needs and addressing limitations
  • Conduct staff and community training workshops
  • Prepare and submit designated statistical reports as required.
  • Participate in research data collection
  • Knowledge of appropriate community contacts/agencies to establish a network for communication, referrals, and working relationships.
  • Function in a consultative and educative capacity with all pertinent individuals or agencies that impact on clients
  • Meet performance expectations/metrics, as defined for the position within the assigned program.
  • Maintains appropriate professional patient care documentation as defined by The Child Center of NY policies and procedures
  • Able to attend to administrative tasks satisfactorily and promptly
  • Demonstrated awareness of and compliance with the HIPAA Patient’s Bill of Rights and patient self-determination
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Social Work from an accredited school of social work
  • LMSW, LMHC, LCAT
  • 2-3 years post masters experience
  • Demonstrated competence in assessment of Maternal Mental Health and treatment planning.
  • Demonstrated competence working with mothers and young children in dyadic therapy
  • SIFI
  • Experience with adult psychiatric population
  • Experience working with pre and postnatal women
  • Experience conducting group therapy
  • Working knowledge of community resources
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Excellent organization and program development skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to plan and carry out assignments independently.
  • Ability to prioritize, adhere to timelines and multi-task.


Qualifications Preferred:

  • Post masters training in trauma treatment modality a plus
  • CPP rostering

  • Maintain established departmental policies and procedures including maintain strict confidentiality and adherence to all HIPAA guidelines at all times.

Work environment: Work is performed in an office environment with normal heating and cooling. Telehealth visits and home visiting will also be required, as needed.
