DEPARTMENT: PARTIAL HOSPITALIZATION PROGRAM (PHP)


SUMMARY:


Provides comprehensive art therapy assessment and treatment interventions for patients, families, and community served by Akron Children's.

RESPONSIBILITIES:


1. Plans, develops, and implements comprehensive therapeutic art programming for children, adolescents, young adults, families, and staff. Facilitates group and individual art therapy sessions with inpatient and outpatient populations in a variety of settings, including home environment.
2. Responsible for assessing patients and families to determine psycho-emotional and developmental needs to facilitate goal focused art therapy-based interventions to promote adaptive coping strategies.
3. Maintains accurate and up-to-date charting related to patient participating in art therapy sessions.
4. In collaboration with individual divisions/departments, designs and implements art therapy interventions for patients, learners, and staff. Oversees activities of volunteers and interns during group art therapy sessions.
5. Facilitates art therapy education for patients, families, staff, and community. Collaborates with faculty at affiliated institutions to provide comprehensive internship opportunities for art-therapy students.
6. Participates in research and professional collaboration, including participation in multi-disciplinary teams, like Palliative Care, Behavioral Health, Addiction Services, Burn Center, and Rehabilitation Services. Actively participate in the development of evidence-based practice for the field of art therapy and advocate for integration of evidence-based art therapy interventions into patient treatment plans.

OTHER INFORMATION:


TECHNICAL EXPERTISE

1. Experience in working with children, adolescents, and young adults in individual and group-based interventions is required.
2. Experience with hospital-community collaboration is preferred.
3. Ability to organize and prioritize multiple work assignments and projects.
4. Experience working in electronic charting software (e.g. EPIC) is preferred.
5. Strong problem-solving, interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written) are required.
6. Research experience preferred.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

1. Education: Master's Degree in Art Therapy required.
2. Certification: ATR-BC accreditation required Must be certified or registered by theArt Therapy Credentials Boardor another recognized state or national body. LPC credential preferred but not required.
3. Licensure: A valid, active license to practice as Licensed Professional Art Therapist in the state of Ohio is required.
4. Years of relevant experience: 2 years
5. Years of supervisory experience: None required but experience supervising interns, students, and other practitioners is preferred.
6. Ability to deal with confidential information and/or issues using discretion and judgement.
