POSITION SUMMARY


Huston Tillotson University invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track assistant professor position in the Social and Behavioral Sciences Department to begin in 2026. The successful candidate will be responsible for contributing to the Psychology Program at Huston-Tillotson University through the teaching of Psychology courses.


Must make learning a challenge to all students and teach and work with enthusiasm and integrity in accordance with the mission of the University. The ideal faculty member is committed to urban undergraduate education, interested in undergraduate research and/or has experience in program development.



TASKS & RESPONSIBILITIES


  • Specific responsibilities are to help maintain a quality, competitive, and up-to-date educational program
  • Prepare teaching assignments and present class material, which is current, challenging and thought provoking
  • Prepare comprehensive syllabi and outlines for each course taught; maintain at least l0 office hours each week in order to be available for students
  • Advise and mentor Psychology students; assist with registration and proposal development for the program
  • Attend regularly scheduled and special faculty departmental and divisional meetings
  • Serve on standing committees as requested by the Department Chair, the Dean of College of Arts and Sciences, the Vice President for Academic and Student Affairs, or the President, and to perform related duties as requested by and work closely with the Department Chair and the Program Coordinator
Qualifications
  • Ph.D. in Psychology highly preferred and prior undergraduate teaching experience

  • Demonstrated record of leadership for curriculum development
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills
  • Sensitivity to academic and cultural diversity
  • Experience in grant acquisition and management desirable

SUPERVISION


  • This position reports to the Dean of the College of Arts & Science

SALARY RANGE


  • $56,000 Annually, plus benefits!

POSITION STATUS


  • Full-time; in-person. Required to work 9 months, paid over 12 months.
