Pacific BioLabs is an independent CRO providing cGMP/GLP testing in toxicology, biocompatibility, pharmacology, analytical chemistry, and microbiology. We are currently seeking energetic scientists and professionals to support our clients in the pharmaceutical, biotech, and medical device fields. PBL has an immediate opening for a full-time Manager for the Analytical Services Department. The Analytical Services Manager is the hands-on Leader in the Pacific BioLabs' Analytical Services Department to drive our contract testing laboratory's extractables and leachables, small molecule method development & validation, stability testing, immunohistochemistry, and wet chemistry testing services. In this client-centric role, the Manager will manage multiple external projects, ensuring high-quality deliverables, on-time execution, and robust scientific rigor.

The Manager will build and mentor a team of analytical scientists while fostering strong relationships with clients, supporting proposals, and guiding project scopes. Success requires balancing technical insight with people leadership to grow both the laboratory and each team member.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES FOR MANAGER, ANALYTICAL SERVICES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO

  • Lead and develop a multidisciplinary team performing E&L studies, method development, validation, immunohistochemistry, and wet chemistry testing
  • Oversee client projects from proposal to final report, ensuring scope alignment, resource planning, and budget adherence
  • Act as primary technical liaison for clients, presenting results, addressing queries, and maintaining customer satisfaction
  • Drive and implement new testing programs that fit within the core competency of the group (e.g., PFAS, Nitrosamines)
  • Implement and maintain quality systems, ensuring compliance with regulatory and accreditation requirements (e.g., ISO 17025, GMP, and GLP)
  • Drive continuous improvement through automation, new technologies, and optimized workflows to enhance throughput and data quality
  • Mentor, coach, and develop staff through performance reviews, training plans, and career-growth initiatives
Requirements:

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Ph.D. in Analytical Chemistry, Pharmaceutical Sciences, or related field (MS with extensive experience considered)
  • Minimum of 8 years in pharmaceutical/biopharma analytical laboratories, including at least 4 years of leadership in a contract testing environment
  • Demonstrated expertise in extractables and leachables, ICH Q2(R2) method validation, and wet chemistry testing
  • Proficiency with chromatography (HPLC, GC/MS, HR-LC/MS), spectroscopy (MS, FTIR), and related analytical techniques
  • Strong project management skills, with a proven track record of delivering complex client projects on time and within budget
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including client presentations, proposals, and regulatory documentation

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience with biocompatibility (Medtech) and pharma (CMC) testing strategies, compendial testing and Lot release testing
  • Familiarity with both medical device and pharmaceutical testing requirements for the US FDA, EU, and JP
  • Hands-on experience fostering team building and mentoring young scientists
  • History of successful regulatory inspections and client audits

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Doctorate (Ph.D.) in Analytical Chemistry or related discipline preferred; Master's acceptable with significant industry track record
  • 8+ years in analytical roles within pharmaceutical/biopharma or CRO labs
  • At least 4 years leading technical teams in a contract testing setting

The base pay offered for this position is $140,000 to $175,000 and will take into account internal equity and may also vary depending on the candidate's job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. This position will be eligible for medical, dental, vision, life insurance, 401k, and other benefits.
