JOB DESCRIPTION: School-based counselors provide and deliver school-based services that improve student outcomes. School-based counselors provide individual and group counseling sessions to youth in grades k-12. School-based counselors work within the school system to assist in supporting youth’s social, emotional, behavioral and academic well-being.
MAIN DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITES:
- Schedule and Conduct regular mental and behavioral counseling sessions with youth in grades k-12
- Establish positive and trusting relationships with youth and school personnel
- Collaborate with school personnel to determine how best to meet youth’s needs
- Implement various treatments and protocols to provide guidance and appropriately address youth needs
- Ability to accurately diagnose based on youth’s symptoms
- Continually assess progression/regression of youth and provide the proper ongoing treatments
- Educate and involve family members or other loved ones in the treatment process when necessary
- Collaborate with outside agencies, as necessary, to ensure continuity of care
- Record and maintain adequate documentation (intake forms, biopsychosocial assessment, treatment plans, progress notes, mental health inventories, etc.)
- Maintain neat and organized files and workspace
- When required, refer youth to outside sources or agencies that can better address their specific needs
- Maintain the strictest confidentiality of each youth
- Maintain all required licenses and certifications
- Provide mental health related trainings and attend community meetings as needed
- Participate in weekly supervision and staff meetings
- Assist with outreach efforts
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Education: Master’s Degree
OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
- Minimum of a Master’s degree in psychology, counseling, social work, or a related field. Licensed or licensed-eligible counselor or social worker preferred.
- Meet all necessary state licensure requirements for NJ
- Minimum of one-year therapy experience in an outpatient or in-home setting.
- Must have experience with utilizing short-term therapy modalities.
- Knowledgeable of the DSM-5
- Must obtain personal liability insurance upon hiring
