GENERAL SUMMARY OF DUTIES:

The Staff Counselor assists with provision of the counseling services and education programs of the Counseling & Student Development Center (C/SDC). The Staff Counselor is an active member of the Division of the Student Experience, which collaborates with students, faculty, and staff to fulfill the mission and goals of the division and of the university.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Provide individual and group counseling, crisis intervention, emergency coverage (see "5" below), assessment, consultation, and outreach services to Marywood University students.
  2. Provide weekly supervision to C/SDC graduate trainees, and take part in the professional development of C/SDC graduate trainees at weekly staffings. This includes: research, preparation, and presentation of three to four didactics per semester as well as maintenance of supervision records and appropriate documentation and evaluation.
  3. Coordinate assignment of new client intakes to current trainees based on experience, caseload, readiness, and availability.
  4. Assist the Associate Director in the coordination of outreach programming in collaboration with the Division of the Student Experience staff, faculty, and other administrators in areas of health/wellness, developmental topics of young adults, and mental health concerns. Specifically, this involves assisting with training Resident Directors (RD) and Advisors (RA), peer educators, orientation leaders, and C/SDC graduate trainees; and helping to coordinate campus-wide awareness and prevention programs on a variety of topics pertinent to college students.
  5. Participate in emergency coverage available to Marywood students, including the C/SDC's drop in hours.
  6. Assist in the coordination of screening days (e.g., depression, anxiety, and eating disorders) in collaboration with the Director, Associate Director, and other members of the University community.
  7. Assist with assessments of needs within the community and develop new counseling/student development services and programs.
  8. Participate in New Student Orientation programs and related activities of the Division of the Student Experience as requested.
  9. Represent the Counseling/Student Development Center on university committees as assigned.
  10. Represent the university through participation in state/regional/national professional activities.
  11. Respond to inquiries from faculty and staff regarding student mental health needs.
  12. Coordinate care and referrals for students needing longer-term or specialized services.
  13. Facilitate transports for emergency psychiatric evaluations to local emergency facilities.
  14. Maintain accurate and timely documentation and scheduling in the C/SDC's electronic health record system in accordance with university and professional standards.
  15. Participate in C/SDC meetings and professional development opportunities.
  16. Adhere to the ethical codes of conduct appropriate to professional bodies such as the ACA, APA, NASW and other professional organizations.
  17. Work as needed over breaks and after hours.
  18. Assist with other projects, administrative duties, and initiatives as assigned.
  19. Consult with the Director and/or Associate Director in the assessment and treatment of students with mental health needs.

Required Qualifications:

Graduate degree in mental health commensurate with licensure discipline

Licensed in the State of Pennsylvania as an LCSW, LAPC, LPC, or psychologist (or license eligible within 6 months).

Demonstrated knowledge of and experience working with diverse populations.

Experience with crisis management/intervention.

FBI, Criminal Background and Child Abuse Clearances

Preferred Qualifications:

Two years clinical experience beyond licensure, preferably with young adults.

Experience as a clinical supervisor.

Experience with outreach programming and/or training.

Job Schedule:

Full Time 10 month position
