About Job

Job Summary:

Under the supervision of the Senior Psychologist, Supervisor and/or Chief of Mental Health, the Licensed Clinical Psychologist is responsible for providing psychological services to mentally ill inmates. This includes comprehensive assessments, therapeutic interventions, and collaboration within a multidisciplinary treatment team in a correctional setting.

The psychologist plays a key role in supporting mental health and rehabilitation efforts while maintaining safety, order, and compliance with institutional policies.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Active and unrestricted California Psychologist License
  • Minimum of 12 continuous months of experience (within the last 3 years) in a public or private institution providing psychological services (excluding internships)
  • Doctoral degree in Psychology from an accredited institution
  • Strong knowledge of correctional mental health care, psychological assessments, and therapy modalities
  • Excellent verbal, written, and electronic documentation skills
  • Adherence to HIPAA, professional ethics, and state laws and regulations

Key Responsibilities:

  • Periodically serve as Clinician-of-the-Day, providing on-call emergency coverage during scheduled workdays.
  • Conduct initial mental health evaluations, reviewing clinical history and recommending appropriate treatment plans.
  • Perform suicide risk assessments using standard protocols, proper documentation, and clinical consultations.
  • Provide crisis intervention, group therapy, and individual counseling, including cell-front interviews in housing units if necessary.
  • Identify and assess psychiatric disorders, perform diagnostic evaluations, and contribute to treatment planning.
  • Administer, score, and interpret psychological tests and write clinical reports reflecting the standard of care.
  • Consult with supervisors, treatment teams, and Correctional Facilities healthcare personnel on complex cases.
  • Attend and contribute to Interdisciplinary Treatment Team (IDTT) meetings and document care accordingly.
  • Maintain records using SOAPE-formatted progress notes and adhere to facility documentation standards.
  • Perform Mental Status Exams (MSE) and utilize available legal, medical, and institutional records for clinical evaluation.
  • Support mental health education, assist patients with accessing community resources, and facilitate transitional planning upon release.
  • Provide assistance in applying for entitlement benefits (e.g., SSI) and coordinate with community programs as needed.
  • Analyze audit data, participate in training and continuous improvement activities related to the mental health program.
  • Submit written reports to the Board of Parole Hearings and communicate with caregivers when proper consent is provided.
  • Uphold confidentiality, ethics, and all California and Correctional Facilities policies, including mandatory reporting (e.g., child or elder abuse, Tarasoff, etc.).

Pay: $160.00 - $165.00 per hour

Expected hours: 20 per week

Schedule:

  • 10 hour shift
  • 8 hour shift
  • Monday to Friday
  • Weekends as needed
