Job Summary
The School Counselor plays a vital role in supporting the academic, emotional, and social development of students. This position involves working closely with students, parents, and faculty to create a safe and nurturing environment that fosters learning and personal growth. The School Counselor will provide individual and group counseling, academic advising, and conflict management support while promoting mental health awareness and well-being within the school community.

Duties

  • Provide individual and group counseling to students addressing academic, personal, and social issues.
  • Assist in conflict management and resolution among students to promote a positive school climate.
  • Conduct academic advising sessions to help students set educational goals and develop plans for success.
  • Collaborate with teachers and staff to implement behavior management strategies that support student learning.
  • Participate in standardized testing processes, providing guidance to students on test preparation.
  • Work with special education teams to support students with diverse learning needs.
  • Engage in childhood development activities that promote emotional well-being and resilience.
  • Maintain communication with parents regarding student progress, challenges, and resources available.
  • Ensure compliance with child protective services regulations and advocate for child welfare within the school environment.
  • Provide culturally sensitive counseling that respects diversity among students and families.
  • Document counseling sessions and maintain accurate records in accordance with school policies.

Qualifications

  • A degree in School Counseling, Social Work, Psychology, or a related field is required; licensure or certification as a school counselor is preferred.
  • Experience working with children in an educational setting is essential.
  • Strong communication skills to effectively interact with students, parents, and staff.
  • Knowledge of behavioral health practices and mental health counseling techniques.
  • Familiarity with childhood development principles and cultural diversity counseling practices.
  • Experience in teaching or classroom settings is advantageous.
  • Ability to manage conflicts effectively while promoting positive relationships among students.
  • Understanding of child welfare policies and procedures related to counseling services.
