Job Summary

The Therapist works within the vision, mission and goals of the agency and is responsible for providing comprehensive assessments, treatment planning, risk assessment, clinical intervention, case management and coordination of therapeutic activities to children and adults in the San Fernando Valley area in accordance with the standards of professional practice and agency policy and procedures.

Summary of Duties:

  • Outreach to engage referred individuals in program services, including telephone screening and home visits as needed.
  • Conducts psychosocial assessments of families.
  • Develops a treatment or service plan for family and individuals.
  • Provides therapeutic services (individual child, youth or adult, family or group counseling).
  • Assess/evaluates client progress and treatment effectiveness; obtains needed documentation and prepare reports.
  • Provides case management and advocacy.
  • Provides crisis intervention when needed to families, individuals, children and adults.
  • Establishes and maintains a relationship with referral sources such as Department of Children’s Services, Probation and schools and other appropriate social service agencies.
  • Keep current and complete paper and/or electronic files on all counseling clients.
  • Maintain a caseload of 30-35 clients.
  • Provide consultation to home visitors and assist making mental health referrals to the community when needed.
  • May conduct parent workshops or make presentations to parent or community groups.
  • May provide case-specific direction to community workers.
  • Keep current and complete paper and/or electronic files on all counseling clients.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Social Work, Marriage and Family Therapy or Clinical Counseling.
  • AMFT licensure with active status with the State of California Board of Behavioral Sciences required.
  • Two (2) years of direct service experience working with low-income children and families.
  • One (1) year case management experience preferred
  • Working knowledge of parenting, early childhood education, the developmental needs of children and adolescents, typically resulting from completion of any combination of formal education, seminars, and working experience in related areas.
  • Working knowledge and ability to provide trauma-informed counseling services.
  • Working knowledge of current welfare policies, reporting laws, Agency/State program policies, school laws relating to teenagers, and the legal issues pertaining to teens, parenting, custody, child care, marital/domestic violence, welfare and public assistance.
  • Working experience with low-income, at-risk children and multi-cultural community.
  • Ability to relate well and develop effective and positive working relationships with clients from diverse cultural, education, racial, and ethnic backgrounds.
  • Effective written and oral communication skills including public speaking.
  • Bilingual: English/Spanish highly desirable.
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Must be flexible with work day and work hours.
  • Must be willing to meet clients outside of office.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $68,640.00 - $70,000.00 per year
