Job Title: Early Intervention Specialist

Reports To: Program Manager

Status: Part-time

Location: Pasco, Hernando, and Citrus Agency and Community Based (main office at New Port Richey)

SUMMARY:

To provide comprehensive developmental services to children with visual impairment and families in the Early Intervention Program. The primary population served is between birth and six years old who may have additional disabilities.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

· Plan, prepare and provide continuous comprehensive early intervention services to eligible children birth through five years old.

· Perform required assessments including educational, developmental and conceptual awareness skills.

· Develop individual service plans and objectives to meet participant’s unique needs and goals.

· Provide instruction at the agency or travel to the child’s home or within the community, according to individual needs.

· Attend monthly meetings and staffing to discuss participant’s progress.

· Communicate participant’s needs and progress with parents, other care providers and service providers, school personnel and other individuals or organizations with a legitimate need to know, with appropriate release.

· Provide guidance and support to families for the purpose of growth and development for the child.

· Complete all reporting as required by Agency, Division of Blind Services and funding sources to document client progress, including assessments, evaluations, goals, case notes, monthly progress, and exit reports.

· Document actual services delivered monthly in AWARE system.

· Stay current with new developments in the field and recommend appropriate developments to supervisor.

· Meet credential requirements and maintain certification in VIISA and INSITE.

COMPETENCY:

  • Demonstrated organizational, staff and project management abilities
  • Knowledge of the mission, objectives, policies, programs and procedures of the Lighthouse for the Visually Impaired and Blind; and the principles and practices of non-profit organizations.
  • Demonstration of ability to communicate with different groups
  • Ability to execute multiple simultaneous projects
  • Managing programs within a budget.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor's degree in visual disabilities, counseling, psychology, education, social work or a health-related field. (Required)
  • Certified in Vision Impaired In-Service in America (VIISA) 0-3, VIISA 3-5 and In-home Sensory Impaired Training and Education (INSITE) (Preferred). Must obtain VIISA and INSITE certifications within one year.
  • Self-motivated, organized and able to work independently and with good judgment.
  • Must possess valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
  • Must be pleasant, positive and professional.
  • Able to occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds.
  • Early childhood education experience with children with disabilities preferred.
  • Must be able to successfully pass a criminal background screening and drug test
