Tarrant County Samaritan Housing (Samaritan House) is a nonprofit organization which has provided housing and support services to disabled, low-income individuals in Tarrant County, Texas for over thirty years. The mission is to support challenged individuals and families as they move toward independence by providing housing, resources, and hope.

Job Summary

The Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor (LCDC) provides high quality services to residents in Samaritan House supportive housing programs. This position also supports residents on their goals as outlined in the individual resident care plan. The emphasis of the role is toward empowerment of the resident by education and early intervention whenever issues are presented, such as substance abuse, mental illness, or emotional distress. This position works as part of a multidisciplinary team which is designed to assist our residents with all-around support.

Responsibilities include:

  • Complete substance abuse assessments
  • Conduct ongoing substance use groups
  • Conduct life skills groups, when needed
  • Conduct individual substance use counseling sessions with residents/clients
  • Provide crisis counseling, when needed
  • Conduct drug screens on clients, as needed
  • Collaborate with outside agencies that specialize in substance abuse or recovery
  • Supervise LCDC practicum students, when necessary
  • Develop, implement, monitor, and update care plans
  • Maintain confidential client files with required documentation
  • Enter information into databases, as required by funders
  • Complete documentation within required guidelines
  • Complete all other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor in the State of Texas
  • Working knowledge of chemical dependency and psychiatric care.
  • Knowledge of chemical dependency principles, practices, and techniques
  • Knowledge of and adherence to the Chemical Dependency Counselor Code of Ethics.
  • Basic skills for the operation of office machines, computers and computer programs.
  • Effective communication with staff, residents and administrative personnel from varied cultural and socio-economic groups.
  • Current Texas Driver’s License.
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screening and background check.

  • Work harmoniously with co-workers to generate a productive and constructive environment.
  • Utilize work time fully and effectively to maximize productivity.
  • Adapt to changing assignments/priorities as needed to support clients and the agency.
  • Interact professionally with partner agencies, donors, and visitors to Samaritan House.
