- Identifies and screens individuals in the legal system for mental illness
- Provides on-site assessments and develops intervention
- Provides crisis assessments and supports as deemed necessary
- Coordinates referrals and case management
- Provides continuity of care services with all area jails
- Prepares progress notes and other required documentation
- Advocates with legal entities for persons with mental illness
- Provides ongoing case management upon release from jail
- Knowledge of mental illness and emotional components of physical illness; psychiatric diagnosis, psychosocial assessments and crisis intervention.
- Demonstrated skill in interviewing and reporting results of interviews.
- Considerable ability to work cooperatively and effectively with professional personnel (i.e. jail staff, etc); to exercise tact, initiate, and good judgment in dealing with clients and relatives.
- Knowledge to prepare reports and make recommendations for administrative use.
- Ability to speak and write effectively; to relate to people and to interact with consumers.
- Must have and maintain a level of general health that permits the performance of job duties.
