About Job

About A Village Wellness Center

A Village Wellness Center is a thriving behavioral health organization located in downtown Silver Spring, Maryland. We are dedicated to providing evidence-based, culturally responsive care to individuals and families grappling with substance use and co-occurring mental health disorders. Our outpatient (OP) and intensive outpatient (IOP) programs serve both adult and adolescent clients, reflecting our core mission of access, dignity, and long-term recovery.

We're seeking a clinically skilled, flexible, and client-centered Substance Use Clinician to join our team on a part-time, fee-for-service basis. This as-needed role involves conducting individual therapy sessions, providing crucial group coverage, and completing assessments when necessary. If you're passionate about supporting both adults and adolescents on their recovery journey, we encourage you to apply.

Position Overview

As a Substance Use Clinician, you'll inherit a small caseload of 8–10 clients for individual substance use counseling sessions, with ample opportunity to increase your caseload based on performance, client need, and your availability. A key aspect of this role is your willingness and ability to serve adolescents in both individual and group settings. Beyond individual sessions, you'll provide vital coverage for groups (including psychoeducational and process groups) as needed, and complete ASAM assessments when requested.

This is a flexible, as-needed role, meaning work will be scheduled based on client demand, staff coverage needs, and your availability. While the role is primarily virtual, we offer optional in-office participation for those who prefer to work from our Silver Spring location.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide individual therapy for a caseload of approximately 10 substance use clients, with potential for growth.
  • Deliver compassionate and effective individual counseling to adolescents and adults.
  • Facilitate or provide coverage for OP/IOP group therapy sessions, including psychoeducation, skills-based, and process groups for both youth and adult participants.
  • Conduct thorough ASAM assessments and complete all intake documentation using our EHR system (Opus), including: ASAM Criteria, Biopsychosocial Assessment, BAM, PHQ-9, C-SSRS, and the Initial Treatment Plan
  • Write clear, clinically sound interpretive summaries and progress notes in alignment with COMAR standards.
  • Maintain timely documentation and internal communications within 24–48 hours of client interaction.
  • Track client progress diligently and contribute to treatment planning and discharge readiness.
  • Actively participate in clinical supervision and team communication as required.
  • Provide trauma-informed, culturally responsive care to all clients, including youth and adults.

Qualifications

  • Active Maryland substance use license or certification (required):
  • Alcohol & Drug Trainee (ADT)
  • Certified Associate Counselor – Alcohol and Drug (CAC-AD)
  • Certified Supervised Counselor – Alcohol and Drug (CSC-AD)
  • Licensed Clinical Alcohol and Drug Counselor (LCADC)
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in substance use disorder treatment.
  • Demonstrated experience and comfort providing individual therapy and group facilitation to both adolescents and adults.
  • Strong documentation skills and comfort with EHRs (Opus training will be provided).
  • Ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and respond promptly to client or team needs.
  • Must have weekday availability (Monday–Friday, 9 AM–5 PM).
  • Must be organized, dependable, and clinically competent.

Compensation & Schedule

  • Hours: As needed, based on client demand, offering flexibility to fit your lifestyle.
  • Schedule: Flexible per your weekday availability. Note: You must have recurring weekday availability.
  • Compensation:
  • ADT: $35 per assessment, per individual counseling session, and per hour of group
